Saunders Law

Saunders Law is a central London boutique law firm, with enviable expertise in litigation and commercial law. Whilst the practice traces its roots back to 1974, its lawyers remain at the forefront of innovation, acting for some very well-known figures in the media and creative arts.

  • Meet Will Charlesworth

Will Charlesworth is head of Intellectual Property at Saunders Law, and is a well-respected and experienced commercial lawyer, specialising in the crypto and technology sector.

Whilst Will regularly acts clients including public figures; private and high-profile individuals in the media; SMEs and listed companies, he passionately believes in supporting tech and artistic start-ups.

Outside of law, Will is an artist who has exhibited in the UK and the US, having undertaken commissions for the Honorary Consul to Estonia, a Greek dog charity, and has most recently contributed art to clothing brand, Schöffel. Will understands, therefore, the importance of protecting the rights of artists and the ability to commercially exploit original work.

At Saunders Law, Will has advised on several new NFT projects, including most recently the regulatory, commercial, corporate, and intellectual property aspects of a considerable NFT project, spanning Europe and the UK. He also works with artists to protect and commercialise their IP rights in the crypto and metaverse space.

Will worked for an electronics company in Hong Kong, before becoming a solicitor, which has given him a valuable insight into the reality of how a business operates, particularly how commercial assets such as Intellectual Property are developed and commercially exploited. Will continues to apply that commercial experience and straightforward approach when working with clients, advising them on the protection and enforcement of their rights.

    Other recent work examples:

    • Advising a crypto currency as to the enforcement of its IP rights and the resolution of litigation surrounding a funding white paper.

    • Advising a London-Turkish joint venture technology start-up in respect of its IP rights in the dissolution of a blockchain technology platform venture.

    • Acting for a UK based software company against a leading US bank in a copyright and database rights infringement claim concerning the creation of bespoke and highly complex financial analytical software.

    • Acting for a well-known figure in a ‘freezing order’ injunction application in a multi-million-pound art fraud case.
