Changing the face of law.

With more than 70 offices in more than 40 countries and 4,800+ lawyers worldwide, CMS combines deep local market understanding with a global overview, giving us the ability to see what’s coming, and to shape it.

  • CMS is the leading crypto law firm in Europe

We have advised in the sector since 2016.  We completed about 35 ICOs.  We did our first UK STOs in 2018.  We advise exchanges, wallet providers, crypto fintechs and market infrastructure providers, including DeFi platforms.  We work for a large proportion of the applicants to the FCA’s cryptoasset licencing regime and for firms operating out of the BVI, Cayman, Gibraltar, Estonia, Switzerland and elsewhere.  Our practice covers regulatory authorisations and regulatory affairs, trading transactions, M&A and corporate finance, fundraising, IP, and disputes. We also work for blockchain investment funds, family offices, regulators and policymakers.

We have deep experience of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, with extensive industry knowledge and contacts. We also have a leading technology practice, advising the likes of Google, Amazon and Facebook.

We are often involved in crypto integration projects and act for tech businesses developing products in the payments and crypto space. Combined with our extensive experience acting for and closely with regulators such as the FCA, BAFin, FINMA etc., we can analyse new financial products and businesses from a variety of jurisdictional perspectives.

CMS has been at the forefront of FinTech innovation more broadly for many years. Our equIP start-up accelerator programme includes dozens of FinTech and crypto businesses.

In a world of ever-accelerating change where technology is increasingly important in the deployment of global strategies, our clear, crypto-business focused advice helps clients of every size to face the future with confidence.
